My Story

Operation Bobbi Bear is committed to helping sexually abused children in Durban, South Africa. "Bobbi Bear" is the non-threatening toy that children use to communicate the nature of their abuse, to minimise language barriers. Bobbi Bear provides education and support for victims and their families and offers appropriate HIV/ AIDs interventions.

No-one should ever have to experience the abuse these children have faced. I am passionate about this organisation and have secured a placement with Operation Bobbi Bear for the summer of 2019, to offer all the support and love I can to these children. For us, support networks are often taken for granted: to these children, support is something they are yet to experience.

Examples of my activity during the placement: help provide a safe haven for the children on entering the centre; document cases and support children through the court process; provide age-appropriate HIV/ AIDS education to children and teachers in schools, including supporting adults to identify signs of sexual abuse; administering basic health care, clothing and food to those who need it along with much, much more.

To accept this placement, I am seeking your support please. I aim to raise £3000. Operation Bobbi Bear is different from most volunteer abroad organisations, in that a direct donation is made to the charity from the money I raise. In context: £10 buys an emergency rescue bag; £15 buys a Bobbi Bear; £20 buys essential school equipment; £50 helps to pay the child safety officers. My fundraising goal will also help cover my accommodation.

With massive thanks in advance for any amount that you are able to donate. I cannot express how much it is appreciated.
